The Wild Hog Supper, which always was used as an early symbol of legislators eating “high on the hog” with lobbyists, was transformed this year. The Georgia Food Bank Association sponsored the event and guests (including legislators) had to fork over twenty bucks for a ticket to attend (and bring a can of food as well). That’s great, but as James has noted in past years, there is no event that veteran legislators and leaders dreaded more than “the Wild Hog.” The event had become too large and the food was anything but the “feast” it was always described to be in the media. This year hopefully everyone is a winner. Food goes to those in need, everyone pays to go, and the poor legislators aren’t made to look like they are eating “high on the wild hog” even before the session starts…Rising
Kemp, Jones urge income tax cuts
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was joined this week by Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in calling for an acceleration of the state’s scheduled income tax cuts. Last year’s HB 1437 set in motion a reduction of the state’s income tax rate from 5.75% to 4.99%, to be rolled out over several years. But with a $16 billion surplus, Kemp said he will push to accelerate that process which could save Georgians $1.1 billion in 2024. The move would have Georgians’ wallets RISING…
