Metro-Atlanta’s GOP rich counties saw steady and relatively heavy voting during the “before work” shift at numerous polling places around the area. Despite equipment problems (typical of Fulton County) voting in areas such as Sandy Springs and Dunwoody were reportedly much heavier than at the same time of day in 2010. Cobb polling places witnessed an uptick as well. Fayette County reported strong morning voting numbers as well.
The Republican Party of Georgia came alive this week, orchestrating over 50,000 live calls to likely GOP candidates urging them to vote.
Two groups might have differing influences on how those voters might vote in key races. Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom group is being credited with perhaps the most sophisticated turnout of voters—that being evangelical christens inclined to vote a straight Republican ticket. Meanwhile, the various Tea Party groups, some of which support Governor Deal, and some of which are pushing Libertarian Andrew Hunt decided to focus all of their attention on voters in Cobb County. Monday night they lobbed anti-Special Sales Tax automated calls and surrounded polling places with anit-tax signs. What impact their efforts might have as to the race for governor or U.S. Senate is anyone’s guess.
InsiderAdvantage CEO/Fox5 Political analyst Matt Towery is telling viewers tonight to expect the earlier numbers in the evening to be “hugely Republican.” Towery says “They will roll in from the southern half of the state and from the mountains with big numbers for both Deal and Perdue. “The issue will be how high the Republicans can keep those percentages as the big counties like DeKalb and Cobb come rolling in, late as usual” says Towery.
