The wave of Republican support was not limited to Georgia, as the GOP gained control of the U.S. Senate by winning nearly every key Senate race in the South. Mitch McConnell (KY), Tom Cotton (AR), Thom Tillis (NC), and — all picked up big wins, while in Louisiana Mary Landrieu (D) and Bill Cassidy (R) will face off in a runoff next month.
It looks likely that the surprise race of the night, that between Mark Warner (D) and Ed Gillespie (R) in Virginia, will head to a recount.
