The suspicious device found on the 14th St. Bridge that shut down the connector for several hours on Monday turned out to be part of a Georgia State student art project – a pinhole camera used to snap slow motion video shots of the city skyline. The camera was inside a soda can which was duct-taped to the side of the bridge, and a quick glance at the device in question shows why people were right to be suspicious.
In a day and age where over-reaction has become the rule rather than the exception, some might argue that shutting down the city’s most trafficked stretch of road was overkill. There were, after all, signs near the device stating that there was a camera inside the can. But in these troubled times and in this city where terror has reared its ugly head before, it is always better to be safe than sorry. A commendable job by the Atlanta Police Department for taking all necessary precautions to defuse the situation.
