A headline in the Jan. 19 Atlanta Journal-Constitution read: “Major Crimes Dip in Atlanta in 2015.” Wrong! If you read the accompanying article it reports that murders rose from the year before and rape is up over 50 percent from 2013. Those are “major crimes.” The Atlanta Police Department claims that robberies, burglary and larcenies are down from a year ago, but police officers confide to InsiderAdvantage that they are ordered to count a home break-in at an apartment or condo complex as just “one” rather than actually report that 20 units were robbed in the complex. Questions linger over Atlanta City Hall investigation
An ongoing investigation into former Atlanta Municipal Clerk Foris Webb III is hitting roadblocks, as city employees are delaying or rejecting interviews by the inspector general. Webb received more than $900,000 in consulting fees from the city for his “work” on a referendum meant to block the city’s law enforcement training center, dubbed “Cop City.” That referendum got held up in court, never wound up doing anything, and the center was built, but Webb continued to cash a $35,000 check each month.
