He had never held public office until 2011, but Tim Echols made up for lost time. Working with Public Service Commission colleagues, he helped oversee the merger of the Southern Company and AGL Resources. It not only keeps AGL in Atlanta, but freezes Georgia Power Co. rates for 3 years. Add to that his work with Bubba McDonald and other commissioners on solar– with Georgia now 4th in the nation for solar power (and all without a subsidy). Georgia Power rates will drop, yes drop, again in June $4.60 per customers. Echols is up for re-election on May 24, and has opposition, yet we believe his ship is RISING…..
Ga. Senate voices support for police training center
The Georgia Senate last week found time to vote on a couple of issues other than the redistricting process they were called back to Atlanta to sort out – one of those being the Atlanta law enforcement training center that has become a focus of national controversy. On Friday a resolution was introduced voicing support for the facility, which the Senate broadly supported by a 46-5 margin. All those opposed were Democrats, (three more abstained from voting) but the vote shows widespread support just as recent polls have.
