Former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young, a lieutenant of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, has a well-earned reputation of building bridges between the black and white communities in Georgia’s capital city. In light of Black Lives Matter members and other radicals yelling threats and profanities against law enforcement officers during successive nights of protests, the 84-year-old Young referred to some of the street demonstrators as “unlovable little brats” to a group of police officers. President Francys Johnson of the Georgia National Association for the Advancement of Colored People promptly attacked Young, inviting him “to go quickly and quietly into a well-deserved retirement.” Young’s boat has been rising for years in Atlanta circles. Ga. Senate voices support for police training center
The Georgia Senate last week found time to vote on a couple of issues other than the redistricting process they were called back to Atlanta to sort out – one of those being the Atlanta law enforcement training center that has become a focus of national controversy. On Friday a resolution was introduced voicing support for the facility, which the Senate broadly supported by a 46-5 margin. All those opposed were Democrats, (three more abstained from voting) but the vote shows widespread support just as recent polls have.
