Paine College in Augusta, an historically black private institution, is reducing employee salaries, cutting its workforce and ending non-essential travel in a fight to keep its accreditation. Recently the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges voted to remove Paine from its membership because it failed to meet three financial standards after two years on probation. Congressmen dodge antisemitism vote
This week the U.S. House passed a resolution condemning antisemitism in the U.S., which has seen an uptick as tensions have risen after war broke out between Israel and Hamas. The final tally was 311 in favor, 14 opposed, and 92 voting ‘present,’ including Democratic Reps. Hank Johnson of Lithonia, Lucy McBath of Marietta and Nikema Williams of Atlanta.
