Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is considering putting a .1% sales tax increase on the ballot on November to fund arts in the city. The hike would add an estimated $10-15 million to state coffers. There are already millions of taxpayer dollars devoted to the arts though, and voters may be leery to add on to a sales tax that is already soaring after the transportation additions in recent years. Kemp, Jones urge income tax cuts
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was joined this week by Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in calling for an acceleration of the state’s scheduled income tax cuts. Last year’s HB 1437 set in motion a reduction of the state’s income tax rate from 5.75% to 4.99%, to be rolled out over several years.
