The Georgia Institute of Technology is increasingly recognized as a world class institution of higher learning (even rival University of Georgia Bulldogs would have to grudgingly, if not privately, admit it). This is underscored this weekend by the visit of Panama’s President Juan Carlos Varela,a 1985 Tech graduate who loves his alma mater, Atlanta and, yes, the Atlanta Braves baseball team. Before he speaks Saturday at a Tech graduation ceremony in McCamish Pavilion, Varela, his wife and entourage will take in tonight’s Braves game at the new SunTrust Park stadium. For both Panama’s pro-American president, as well as Georgia Tech’s leadership who continue to foster international relationships, their ships are indeed RISING…
