A strange series of events has led to the disbanding of a police department in a small town in Whitfield County. Varnell city councilman Sheldon Fowler was suspended by the council and later resigned for his role in an alleged domestic incident with his family at his home. Chief of police Lyle Grant responded to the call, but left the scene and did not issue an arrest warrant for Fowler for a week. The city council shockingly then voted to disband the city’s entire 10 man police department. Two days later, the Mayor reinstated the police force.
