Although the murder rate has dipped for the time being, the Atlanta Police Department is experiencing a morale problem. The union representing the city’s law officers says it is outrageous that Chief Erika Shields ordered a 20-day suspension of Officer Quentin Green for his videotaped sidewalk takedown of a career criminal resisting arrest. Yes, the officer struck body blows to the flailing resister– but did so via established APD training policy.  Police academy defensive training instructors even asked Shields not to punish Green, but it fell on deaf ears. The chief pandered to a few vocal radical activists and, naturally, officers on the mean streets are taking note of her “political correctness”  Shields, who could (should?) be replaced by a new mayor, is DRIFTING…
