The annual Georgia Press Association convention has traditionally hosted gubernatorial debates and forums over the past few decades. Not so at the GPA’s Jekyll Island conclave this week. GOP candidate Casey Cagle’s staffers seem to have dropped the ball and then later said he had conflicts. Republican Brian Kemp’s campaign said he had to be at fund-raisers instead. And Democrat Stacey Abrams offered to have her connect with the journalists through Skype but then it pulled the plug. What a missed opportunity to appear (even solo) before a forum where prominent journalists (most from outside metro Atlanta) could ask questions and where you could get valuable publicity, The candidates blew it and, at least for this week, their boats are DRIFTING…
Falcons ranked 1st
The Atlanta Falcons have not made the playoffs since the 2017 season, an eon in football terms, but hope springs eternal for the franchise as it is projected to win its division behind new star quarterback Kirk Cousins and new Head Coach Raheem Morris. Whether that pairing bears fruit remains to be seen – but there is one aspect where the organization is ranked first in the league.
