A candidate forum for Savannah mayoral candidates Wednesday evening is grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons. The event, organized by the Rev. Clarence Teddy Williams, barred white journalists from entry, with signs saying “Black press only” posted on the doors. Audio and video recordings were also disallowed. This was no small-time affair either, with big names in attendance including Former Mayor Edna Jackson, Chatham County Commissioner Chester Ellis, multiple Savannah aldermen, and a pair of announced mayoral candidates.
