Gov. Brian Kemp added new political allies to the 19-member University System Board of Regents— businessmen Jose Perez and Sam Holmes— as well as re-appointed Regent and Georgia Tech Alumni Association chair Dean Alford. Regents Richard Tucker and Don Leebern Jr. (first appointed by then-Gov. Zell Miller) were replaced. All three of the governor’s choices are poised to help reinvigorate the board that oversees the taxpayer-supported colleges and universities that comprise the University System. (The Regents also appoint the chancellor who oversees day-to-day operations.)
