A 656 foot cargo ship called The Golden Ray capsized just off the shore of St. Simons Island yesterday following a fire. 20 of its 24 crew members were rescued, as Coast Guard officers continue to search for the remaining four. The ship, which contained approximately 4,200 vehicles, had left the Port of Brunswick early Sunday morning, headed for Baltimore. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science.
