A thirty-year Atlanta tradition is coming to an end, as Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms last week told local radio station Majic 107.5/97.5 that the city was cancelling its annual New Year’s Eve Peach Drop. Citing issues with location, (the city no longer owns Underground Atlanta) and troubles with execution last year, Bottoms said she hopes the 800-pound peach will be back someday, “bigger and better” than ever. Report highlights maternity care struggles
Expanding access to rural healthcare has been a key priority for legislators in recent years, but there are still areas where Georgia struggles. One of those is access to maternity care, where according to a study by March of Dimes, nearly half of the state’s 159 counties are considered ‘maternity care deserts.’ That means that some 159,000 women in Georgia live more than 30 minutes from a hospital that provides labor and delivery services.
