Former U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson was in attendance at Gov. Brian Kemp’s annual State of the State address Thursday, and his legacy was honored in a means that will go far beyond any plaque or building name. Kemp announced a new research program at the University of Georgia, created in honor of Isakson, that will work to develop better treatments for Parkinson’s disease, which the former senator suffers from and which caused him to retire at the end of 2019. Moldova soon to be welcoming a Georgian
It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. As he prepares to locate in a country (a U.S. ally) bordered by Romania and Ukraine, his boat (and Georgia’s) is RISING….
