Momentum is building for the extension of gaming after yesterday’s lopsided affirmative vote in the House Regulated Industries Committee. Polling shows a vast majority of Georgians– both rural and urban– want the opportunity to vote on authorizing destination resort casinos, sports betting and local option pari-mutuel horse wagering. Proponents especially point to the economic boost it would bring to various regions– especially since there is a need for sustainable new revenue in light of the current economic crisis. Observers hope the votes are there for House passage of a constitutional amendment authorizing all three. Pressure would then be RISING on the Senate to follow suit.
