Atlanta Public Schools has zeroed in on a replacement for outgoing Superintendent Meria Carstarphen, whose contract was controversially not renewed for next year.  Spelman College graduate Lisa Herring was announced this week as APS’ sole finalist for the position, and she boasts an impressive resume.  The Macon native helped turn around Birmingham’s struggling schools as superintendent, regaining full accreditation for the district in 2018 after it had been put on probation five years earlier.  If approved Herring will have big shoes to fill, but hopefully she will keep APS’ course RISING…
