Last week Waynesboro Mayor Gregory Carswell was arrested and charged with two counts of felony theft by deception and two felony counts of identity theft fraud when using/possessing identifying information concerning a person. The charges relate to the Burke County Democrat’s work at a Statesboro title pawn business, though he says the situation is a misunderstanding and that he is not guilty.
