Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was one of the first major politicians to throw their support behind President-elect Joe Biden. As he won the Democratic primaries and eventually the presidential race, many thought Bottoms was set up to receive a spot in his cabinet, possibly as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development or Transportation. However those roles have now been spoken for, and on Friday a New Yorker writer reported that she had been offered Ambassador to the Bahamas, but turned it down. Ambassador is a plum gig, but for small countries like the Bahamas is mainly reserved for older supporters and party figures – it would be a career dead end for someone with higher political aspirations like Bottoms. If she had any notion of getting a top role in the Biden administration in D.C. – those dreams are SINKING…
Dems find mess in CD-11
Georgia Democrats had a mess on their hands in the 11th Congressional District outside Atlanta after the party nominated Katy Stamper, later finding out she wasn’t a Democrat at all and had far-right political leanings. So they launched a write-in campaign promoting Tracey Verhoeven as the ‘real’ Dem in the race. It didn’t matter in the end as U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk cruised to re-election, but Stamper still got 32% of the vote to just 3% for Verhoeven. A failed write-in campaign and a messy election in CD-11 has Democrats there SINKING…
