District 4 Augusta Commissioner Sammie Lee Sias has been indicted on federal charges of lying to investigators and destroying records related to allegations of misconduct.  It has been two years since the feds opened their investigation into Sias, following up on claims from a former employee – whom he also allegedly had an affair with – that he pocketed more than $10,000 in SPLOST funds and mistreated children in his role running the Jamestown Community Center.  In the process of investigating those claims, Sias allegedly lied to investigators and destroyed records, charges which carry a maximum statutory penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison.  No arraignment date has been set, but Sias’ days as a public servant (and possibly a free man) are SINKING…
