Following a one-year hiatus due to COVID, the U.S.’s longest running Oktoberfest celebration is back in the idyllic North Georgia town of Helen, starting this September.  This will be the event’s 50th anniversary, marked by parades, traditional German music and food, and of course plenty of steins of beer.  Helen adopted its Bavarian style in the late 1960’s, when new zoning laws made its classic south-German design for buildings mandatory.  That decision led to the wild popularity of its annual Oktoberfest, the largest of several festivals that it hosts throughout the year.
