It took until the final day of the year, but Atlanta hit a grisly benchmark last Friday with its 157th and 158th homicides of the year, surpassing 2020’s shocking total.  Both years far outpaced 2019 and its 99 homicides, which had marked a steady decline in violent crime in the city since its peak in the mid-90’s.  The skyrocketing murder rate is one of the main reasons that former Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms decided not to run for re-election, why neighborhoods like Buckhead are attempting to leave the city, and one of the key points of emphasis for newly sworn-in Mayor Andre Dickens as he assumes office this week.  Hopefully Atlanta sees some changes in 2022 because 2021’s murder total has the city SINKING…
