Eight protesters were arrested Tuesday at the site of the proposed “Cop City” in DeKalb County, after two molotov cocktails were thrown at officers looking to remove them from the city-owned land. Protesters have taken up residence on the 85-acre plot, which was leased by the City of Atlanta to the Atlanta Police Foundation to build a new training facility for police and firefighters. Opponents say they are worried about environmental damage and/or continued investment into law enforcement. Report highlights maternity care struggles
Expanding access to rural healthcare has been a key priority for legislators in recent years, but there are still areas where Georgia struggles. One of those is access to maternity care, where according to a study by March of Dimes, nearly half of the state’s 159 counties are considered ‘maternity care deserts.’ That means that some 159,000 women in Georgia live more than 30 minutes from a hospital that provides labor and delivery services.
