Columbus Police Chief Freddie Blackmon has not exactly gotten rave reviews since assuming the position in 2020.  A gang war led to more than 70 homicides in 2021, and a study from the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police found that the department wasn’t doing enough to investigate gang violence and that officer morale was low.  After Blackmon requested a budget for 572 officers when the department currently only employs 295 officers and faces major questions about retainment, the Columbus city council decided enough was enough and offered him a settlement to retire.  Now searching for an interim chief, the saga has Columbus’ public safety DRIFTING…
