An embarrassing split has been occurring on the political Left in metro Atlanta that has been inflamed by black Democrat U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., and his recent appearance at a “boycott Israel” event and his description of Jewish settlers in the West Bank as “termites.”
Something called the “Atlanta Black-Jewish Coalition” has been formed to try calming troubled waters. Its liberal co-chairs, Stacey Chavis and Randy Crohn, say: “Due to recent events, we feel that there is a need to bring together the Black and Jewish communities to discuss the issues that are most pressing to all of us.” In an email they cite the divisive issues that need to be addressed: “Israel, anti-Semitism, and Black Lives Matter.”
The coalition’s email announces a 7 p.m. meeting on Thursday, August 25th at Manuel’s Tavern for a membership drive and an “important dialogue.” One Jewish liberal who plans to attend tells InsiderAdvantage that “this meeting comes none too soon. Some in the Black Lives Matter crowd have a disturbing anti-Semitic, anti-white streak that must be confronted.”
