It was a tough weekend for Bainbridge’s favorite son (UGA football coach Kirby Smart) but it’s not all been bad news for the southwest Georgia city, which recently announced a $700 million expansion from Danimer Scientific, a biopolymer manufacturer based in Decatur County. Gov. Brian Kemp was on hand to celebrate the groundbreaking, which will see a new 2-million-square-foot facility on Danimer’s 25-acre campus. Danimer, which 15 years ago was a little-known manufacturer, today is publicly traded and making a huge impact in its home county. Its continued investment serves as a win for rural Georgia and another notch on the belt for the state’s economic development team.
