Nearly 120 years ago Coca-Cola opened a bottling plant in Tifton, the county seat of Tift Co. in South Georgia.  Today that building is a dentist’s office in downtown, but the iconic ‘Coke’ logo is still emblazoned on the walls and the soft drink giant has remained an important part of the city’s history.  Now it will become a part of Tifton’s future, with the opening of a new 343,000-square-foot sales and distribution center, one of the largest in the nation.  Gov. Brian Kemp and other state and local officials were on hand to commemorate the opening of the new plant, which first broke ground in 2020 and has brought nearly 300 new jobs to the area.  “Today, as we celebrate this occasion with our friends at Coca-Cola United, we aren’t going to say, ‘Welcome to Tifton,'” Tifton Mayor Julie Smith said at the event. “We did that 120 years ago. Today, we say, ‘Welcome home,’ and like all good friendships, it’s good to have you back where you belong.”
