Normally it’s not a good sign when your public waterworks turn green, but when it comes to mid-March in Savannah it means the festivities are set to begin. On Friday members of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee dyed the iconic fountain in the middle of Forsyth Park an emerald hue, kicking off a week of St. Patrick’s Day festivities that will culminate in the city’s famous parade next Monday. St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal in Savannah – its parade is the third largest in the U.S. and draws thousands upon thousands of visitors from all around the world. This year’s edition – the 201st – will see much of downtown closed off as revelers take to the streets, garbed in green and maybe with a drink in hand.
