The recent Public Service Commission primary elections saw low turnout statewide, but with the District 3 Democratic race headed for a runoff next month, some counties may not see a single vote – and that could prove costly. Many counties are looking to open just one polling place for the runoff, but the total cost to hold statewide elections will still run in the neighborhood of $10 million statewide. Could lawmakers be prompted to look at ways to avoid costly, low turnout runoffs in the future, like lowering the threshold to 45% or using some alternative system like ranked choice voting? Dems post fundraising hauls
The 2026 governor’s race is just getting revved up, but a pair of Georgia Democrats are trying to establish themselves as early frontrunners. This week former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced that she’s raised $900,000 and lent herself another $200,000, while state Sen. Jason Esteves says his campaign has raised $1.1 million since he entered the race in April.
