“As Americans across the country prepare to celebrate our independence, a chilling political reality is unfolding in our nation’s largest city,” writes National Review. This refers to a self-described socialist who captured the Democratic Party nomination for New York City mayor. And two Georgia Democratic legislators — state representative and proud socialist Gabriel Sanchez, along with Muslim/Palestinian state lawmaker Ruwa Romann— have been on social media enthusiastically campaigning for candidate Zohran Mamdani.
Not only center-right politicians and pundits, but voices within the Democratic Party, have been warning about this radical leftward lurch in politics for years. While some news outlets, like the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, celebrate these candidates like New York’s Mamdani as fresh voices, other journalists are documenting the real-world consequences of socialist policies. (President Donald Trump, along with others on the political right, flatly label Mamdani as a “Communist.”)
The specter of socialism in Georgia is already causing division among Peach State Democrats. Sanchez, who represents a Cobb County Smyrna-based district, is shunned by most elected Cobb County Democratic state lawmakers as an embarrassment. Yet other elected Democrats serving under the Capitol’s Gold Dome have been fawning over Sanchez, posing for pictures with him and inviting him to events.
“This mayoral race is not an isolated incident. It’s part of a coordinated effort turning America’s cities into training camps where socialist policies will eventually be pushed nationwide,” National Review continues. Check out the website for the Democratic Socialists of America for confirmation. It rails against the “imperialist, capitalist system” typified by private property, calls for “the abolition of white supremacy” and vows to fight against the “fascism” of the Republican Party. Mainstream Democrats are also attacked because “they are hopelessly compromised by their donor class of capitalists.”
Mandami has already caused all sorts of waves— from spouting anti-Jewish slogans like ‘Globalize the intifada” to calling for defunding the police and no cash bail for arrestees. He’s also for “free bus service and government-run grocery stores” And he proposes even higher taxes on already overtaxed business– and says he wants to “abolish billionaires.”
Says one Georgia elected Democrat who doesn’t want to be named: “If Trump by the end of his term doesn’t deliver on a growing economy and real income gains, the socialists offering ‘free stuff’ could be poised to be the main alternative.”
