Atlanta Braves President of Business Derek Schiller and Truist Chief Client and Experience officer Dante Wilson Tuesday morning announced the new name of the Braves stadium – now Truist Park.
“Today we are here to announce a new name for this ballpark,” Schiller said. “Four-plus years ago we announced SunTrust as the name of our new ballpark in Cobb County. We also did the groundbreaking at that time.”
“Our relationship with SunTrust dates back to Turner field,” Schiller recalled. “We named the SunTrust Club at Turner Field. And we enjoyed that relationship, which has endured and grown. It’s special because of people like Bill Rogers, who was Chairman of SunTrust, and Terry McGuirk, who is chairman of the Atlanta Braves.”
The rebranding of the ballpark, preparing for its fourth season, comes on the heels of SunTrust bank’s merger with BB&T to form Truist Financial Corp.
Schiller recognized Braves EVP Mike Plant, who runs the Battery and the Braves’ development organization, as well as McGuirk, Jim Allen, and Brad Jones with the Braves, and Jenna Kelly, Susan Johnson and Jeff Dunn with SunTrust.
“Today is all about the rebranding of this ballpark,” Schiller said. “This is not something we take lightly. It is a partnership that is going to endure for the next 20 years. This is going to stand the test of time. We could not be prouder to stand here with Dante and the rest of the team that is now part of Truist.”
“This is a place with a purpose for baseball. And in fact, one thing that is important is to refer to this place as a ballpark. It’s a specific word that represents where we play baseball, share great memories and spend time together – and ultimately, we’re going to have that moment where we hoist the World Series Trophy.”
“Today is a day for purpose,” noted Truist executive Wilson. “We have two purpose-driven organizations coming together to continue our partnership. At Truist, our purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities. To inspire and build better lives and communities is our North Star. An example is our partnership with the Braves, and fan and client experiences, including the Braves “On Up” experiences, that create life-long memories.”
“My first baseball game was a Braves game,” Wilson recalled. “The first baseball hat I owned was given to me by my grandfather, who was a Braves fan. Those are memories I will take with me for the rest of my life, just like other fans and clients who come to this wonderful ballpark.”
