Ah yes, education reform. The latest go at it has been Common Core, and now some lawmakers want to dump it, saying it tries to standardize curricula and achievement standards when they should be left to local and state education authorities. We’ll let others debate the details, while we only lament the seeming impossibility of imposing a political solution to what is largely a cultural problem: Interesting kids in schoolwork in this, the Age of Distraction and Instant Gratification in our culture. Carr joins LSU football fight
In the South, college football is religion – and now it’s politics too. Members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) are furious with LSU over its attempts to sign players already in the NFL to come back to college to play for the Tigers. On Wednesday, Attorney General Chris Carr, (presumably at the behest of some big names at UGA) urged the SEC to take “all measures available” against LSU.
