Around Georgia this afternoon, the day before Tuesday’s runoff election…InsiderAdvantage’s tracking polls have the GOP race for U.S. Senate tight, with Jack Kingston hanging on to a slim lead, but with the undecided having increased. That could suggest a last-minute shift towards one candidate from another. Or it may indicate the real intentions of some of those who say they are going to vote – they might not turn out on what is expected to be a rainy Election Day.

Meanwhile, political activity in Northwest Cobb is at a fever pitch as Bob Barr and Barry Loudermilk battle for every possible vote. At the same time, former Cobb Commissioner Bill Byrne will be testing the might of the Cobb Chamber as he attempts to once again claim a seat on the commission.

And in the south-Metro area the battle to replace Ronnie Chance in the Georgia State Senate has gone slightly haywire. Candidate Marty Harbin has come under fire from some mighty powerful conservative leaders for a mailer he has pushed. It carried photos of the likes of former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Congressman Lynn Westmoreland, and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Within the last hour, Gingrich repudiated the notion that he supports or endorses Harbin. Ironically Gingrich has been a lifelong friend of the family of Harbin’s opponent, David Studdard. Both Westmoreland, for whom Studdard’s mother works, and Huckabee have reportedly also stated that they made no endorsement of Harbin, implied or otherwise, in the race.                                                                        *******************************

As for any Democratic “crossover” into the GOP contest for Senate, it doesn’t look likely. In May Democratic crossover made up more than 30% of the GOP ballots in early voting. This time that percentage is closer to 20%
