The death of state GOP Rep. Harry Geisinger has triggered a special election for the state House of Representatives District 48 seat in Fulton County based in Roswell, but also including a few precincts in Alpharetta. It is bordered by the Chattahoochee River to the south, Cobb County to the west (the Cobb/Fulton County border) and is mostly west of Georgia 400. This district includes the heart of Roswell— the square, historic homes and churches, the commercial corridor around Alpharetta Highway and Holcomb Bridge Road and some of the Martins Landing area east of Georgia 400. (North Point Mall is located just to the north and east of the district, but is not actually in it.)

The front-running candidate for the seat is Roswell City Councilwoman Betty Price, the wife of U.S. Rep. Tom Price who represents the Roswell-based congressional district. Sources say Republican activist Dave McCleary is also poised to run for the seat.
