There were four special elections and two special election runoffs on Tuesday in Georgia, and three of the races will continue on to a runoff as no candidate was able to claim a majority of votes.

In HD 48 Betty Price, (wife of U.S. Rep. Tom Price) won outright, defeating runner-up Dave McCleary with 51% of the vote.

HD 80 saw much better turnout, and voters will be called upon once again as the race heads to a runoff.  In what was surely most dramatic contest of the cycle former Brookhaven Mayor Max Davis will face off against Democrat Taylor Bennett, a surprise leader in what is typically a red district.  Catherine Bernard finished in a close third.

In District 146 Shaw Blackmon and Larry Walker will do battle at the polls once more.  Blackmon took 43% of the vote to Walker’s 35%.

A similar story in HD 155, where Clay Pirkle and Horace Hudgins, both Republicans, will meet back up for a runoff.

Over in HD 24 Republican Sheri Gilligan claimed the seat she missed out on in the special election by three votes, defeating Eric Erickson-endorsed David van Sant by over 50% of the vote.

On the other side of the aisle, Marie Metze will represent heavily Democratic HD 55 after defeating Shelitha Roberston in that runoff.
