Two bills designed to make sure students don’t have to choose between academics and athletics is beginning its way through the Georgia General Assembly.
State Rep. Brian Strickland and State Sen. Burt Jones introduced companion bills last week that they hope will even the playing field for all athletic teams across the state, and will ensure the student athlete’s rights to express their religious beliefs. Both HB 870 and SB 309 are being sponsored by some of the state’s most powerful legislators. And both Jones and Strickland say Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle has been supportive of their efforts.
