While the remaining contenders in the GOP presidential primary go all out in South Carolina this week leading up to Saturday’s vote, already some events are being set as the candidates look forward to the SEC Primary on March 1st.
Donald Trump, the heavy favorite in South Carolina, looks to carry his momentum over to the Peach State by hosting an event nearly as soon as his victory party wraps up in Columbia. The campaign, which has opened several satellite offices scattered across Georgia, will host an event this Sunday at 4:00pm at the Georgia World Congress Center. Look for the big crowds that have become a staple of the Republican front-runner’s events dating throughout his campaign.
Fellow Republican and Ohio Governor John Kasich is planning on speaking before the Georgia House of Representatives this Tuesday, assuming he does well enough in an unfavorable South Carolina climate to remain in the race for two more weeks.
Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, the two candidates most closely trailing Trump in the polls, haven’t released their Georgia schedules yet, but Rubio’s campaign is hosting a press conference featuring Georgia Rep. Lynn Westmoreland and his South Carolina counterpart Trey Gowdy today at the Cobb Galleria. Look for potential details surrounding a Georgia tour to come out then.
On the Democrat side Bernie Sanders stopped by this week, sparking more heated debate between supporters, (State Senator Vincent Fort) and fans of a sliding Hillary Clinton, (essentially every other elected Democrat in the state, most notably U.S. Rep. John Lewis and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed).
Expect a lot more from the GOP candidates after Saturday’s election as they scramble to score big on what promises to be the single most important voting day of the primary. We’ll keep you updated as the schedule comes together.
