There were numerous complaints at the GOP Congressional District conclaves last weekend that the state Republican Party didn’t offer enough information on how to be a delegate or alternate to the July national convention in Cleveland. Newcomers were especially confused about having to be “interviewed” beforehand. In an attempt to address questions about delegate selection at the state convention in Augusta on June 3-4, state GOP Executive Director Adam Pipkin has sent out specific information.
To quote his email:
“If you plan to run as an At-Large Delegate or Alternate to the Republican National Convention, you must submit both a letter of intent and a political resume to the Georgia Republican Party, postmarked no later than May 1, 2016. Due to the high volume of people running for At-Large Delegate/Alternates, the Nominating Committee will not be conducting interviews. “Please send your letter of intent and political resume to:

“If you are elected as a Delegate or Alternate to the Republican National Convention from District or State Conventions, you must be able to attend a mandatory National Convention meeting immediately upon adjournment of the State Convention. In addition to signing the oath, taking a photo, completing all paperwork and receiving additional pertinent information, each Delegate and Alternate must have a personal check, cashier’s check or cash for $500, made payable to the Georgia Republican Party; the payment must be from personal funds as non-federal funds are not permissible.”
