Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell will officially announce today his bid to become the 60th Mayor of Atlanta at a press conference downtown. A close ally of current Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, he will surely be among the frontrunners to take over at City Hall in 2018.
Mitchell was born in Atlanta and attended Morehouse College and UGA Law School. He previously served as a member of the Atlanta’s Budget Commission as well as chair of the city’s Public Safety Committee.
Mitchell joins already announced candidates Cathy Woolard, another former City Council President, and Margaret Kaiser, a State Representative. Expect more high profile candidates to step into the race in coming months as the field takes shape for what will be a competitive contest throughout 2017.
