Consul General of Canada Louise Blais recently presented the Governor General of Canada’s Medallion to former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Gordon Giffin in recognition of his contributions to the vibrant Canada-U.S. relationship. In awarding the medal, the Governor General said Giffin’s “service to both Canada and the United States has no parallel.” Unique among previous and current U.S. envoys to Canada, Giffin spent 17 years of his childhood growing up in Canada. He was appointed by former President Bill Clinton and served as ambassador from 1997-2001. His distinguished career also includes service as a legislative director and chief counsel to former U.S. Sen. Sam Nunn, D-Ga.
