For the nearly 6 million people that live in metro Atlanta, farming is not often top of mind. But in much of Georgia, farming is often still king. Although Gainesville, the poultry capital of the world, is the center for Georgia’s top agricultural crop, broilers (chickens), south Georgia is the bread winner for a multitude of other crops, including cotton, pecans and corn. However, besides the much-beloved peach, there is only one other real crop that has resulted in a state nickname – the goober, or the peanut.
