Gov. Nathan Deal told this writer yesterday that he’s urging a “yes” vote on the first constitutional amendment on the Nov. 8 ballot because “there are currently around 68,000 students languishing in 127 failing schools around the state” (schools receiving an “F” on CCRPI scores for three consecutive years). The amendment’s passage would establish an Opportunity School District (OSD) which authorizes the state to temporarily intervene “to assist the public schools and rescue the children.”
