It may not mean much to local Atlantans, but for anyone familiar with Milledgeville or Lake Sinclair, the smokestack at the Harllee Branch power plant has long been an iconic monument.

Towering over Lake Sinclair, which was built by Georgia Power for the Harllee Branch Plant, the smokestack measured in at just over 1,000 feet, making it one of the world’s tallest when it was completed in 1978.  Named after Harllee Branch Jr., former President of Georgia Power, the power plant provided energy to much of Central Georgia up until its closure in 2015.  Workers have been prepping it for demolition ever since.
