Yesterday InsiderAdvantage noted that President Barack Obama endorsed Donna McLeod for election in a tight race against GOP Rep. Joyce Chandler in the Lawrenceville-based House District 105. We have since discovered that the president has also selected nine other reliably left-wing state legislative candidates for re-election, which of course helps them with fund-raising and voter turnout in their Democrat precincts.
Republican Meagan Hanson, running for election in the Brookhaven, Chamblee and Sandy Springs section of House District 80, is facing first-term Rep. Taylor Bennett. Bennett. The Democrat attorney is endorsed by Obama, even though he is running in a district comfortably won by Republican Mitt Romney in 2012. Hanson supporters we’ve talked with, however, say news of Bennett’s welcomed Obama support is hurting him with independent voters.
Some Democrats running for the Legislature don’t want Obama’s endorsement for that very reason: it hurts them with independents and moderates. In any event, the other Democrat legislative candidates who have enthusiastically received Obama’s official blessing are:
Bill McGowan, Georgia HD-138; Floyd Griffin, Georgia HD-145; Kenneth Zachary, Jr., Georgia HD-151; Tommy Hill, Georgia HD-173; Erick Allen, Georgia HD-40; Kimberly Alexander, Georgia HD-66; Scott Holcomb, Georgia HD-81; and Pedro “Pete” Marin, Georgia HD-96.
