Emory University says its thinking about declaring the Atlanta school a “sanctuary campus” after Donald Trump’s Nov. 8 presidential victory. President Claire Strek says the university is “responding” to left-wing students and faculty urging defiance of the president-elect if his administration steps up deportation of people who are here illegally.
In response to Sterk, a member of the powerful state House of Representatives Appropriations Committee— Rep. Earl Ehrhart, R-Powder Springs— says if Emory “persists” in undermining the rule of law “I will advocate removal of all Georgia funds from the school.” Ehrhart chairs the committee that handles appropriations over higher education.
