One Hundred Miles is an advocacy group with the mission of “protecting, preserving, and enhancing the 100-mile Georgia coast.” Founded in 2013, the group uses grassroots advocacy, education and collaboration to meet its mission and build a broad community of advocates who can also take up the goal. Georgia’s coasts have so far escaped much of the development seen in other east coast states. Thanks to a bit of a geography quirk, Georgia is home to one-third of the salt marshes on the eastern seaboard, which provides habitat for a number of unique fish and wildlife. The Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of the group is Megan Desrosiers. She also serves in leadership for the Georgia Water Coalition and as chair of the Savannah River Clean Water Fund Advisory Board.
