The Braves may have made the move a couple months ago, but one of the pieces from Turner Field found its home on Sunday. The Ty Cobb Statue was unveiled on Sunday in front of the Royston Public Library in Cobb’s hometown of Royston. As the Franklin County Citizen newspaper put it, “Cobb will slide into home one last time Sunday.”

When the Braves were preparing to leave Turner Field, they listed all the items from the stadium they wanted to take with them. The Ty Cobb (no relation) statue was the only statue left off the list. News reports at the time suggested it was because of Cobb’s reputation but the Braves claimed it was simply because they did not own it. Whatever the case, the small north Georgia town of Royston was more than happy to take ownership.
